Dustin Fontenot Benevolence

I’m Dustin’s father Greg Fontenot

Dustin is 38 yrs old
Single father of 2 children, Braxon 10 and Brynnan 8
Note: Braxxon was diagnosed with Autism at 3 years old..
The live in Scott, La.

On 07/15/24 Dustin was home from his 2 weeks stent of working for Enterprise Tugs.
He was on an afternoon ride on his Harley. Heading home on I-10 westbound from Breaux Bridge, La. he was involved
in an accident. Colliding with a Ford F-250 service truck. We believe that having no memory of the accident is God’s protection.
All we know is that somehow, Dustin was pulled into the wheel well of the truck. We were told that Dustin was drug over 100 yards until someone stopped the truck.
An off-duty paramedic witnessed the event and was able to render help until the ambulance and firefighters arrived.
At the hospital in Lafayette, they explained the severity of his injuries and that he would need to go the burn unit in NOLA.  They provide care for trauma patients with burns.  Because so much of the skin was missing, he was treated as a burn victim.
It was such an awful feeling watching the helicopter lift off the roof of the hospital with him on board.
Dustin went to the ER in NOLA and directly to the operating room to get a full assessment of his injuries and begin his treatment.

Initial plan of care was that he would be there 4 weeks + or -  depending on how he did.
Lots of horrible thoughts going thru our minds because we had all worked at hospitals and knew too much.
But as the days went on and as we reached out to friends and family for prayers things began to happen.
We realized a few days later how Dustin had been protected.
1) he did not have any broken arms or legs
2) when they woke him up he appeared to have all of his mental abilities intact
3) there was not a mark or scratch or bruise on his face or head.  His helmet was found on the side of the interstate.  He had been wearing it
4) he had no internal injuries
5)his neck was not broken
6) not a scratch on his arms, legs or his back

He had severe burn wounds chest and left arm.
5 cracked ribs and sternum.

Over the past 6 weeks, Dustin has undergone multiple surgical procedures to prepare and receive skin grafts
on his right chest down to abdomen and right arm.

He recently was released to go home (w/help) and is just starting a 2-3 months of intense physical therapy and daily wound care with physical therapy in New Orleans (3 times a week).
His recovery timeline is currently estimated at 1 year for the skin grafts.

Meanwhile we are trying to raise funds to help him Fund his bills and on going therapy travel.
Dustin had only been employed by Enterprise for 4 months and is not eligible for short term disability.
(His brother Daniel is a Captain for the same company)
His insurance with Enterprise will be terminated Sept 1st… We are currently checking into Cobra insurance.

Without Cobra being added to his budget, we will be currently funding:
Rent
Utilities
Truck insurance
Food
After-School Day Care
Transportation and help for minimum of 2 months of Therapy 3 days a week in New Orleans Burn Center
Minimum budget range is 2300 to 2500 monthly.
Goal to fund 1 year is $25,000 to $30,000

I’m currently working more specific bills and who to pay.

We Thank God for sparing our son and has been merciful in showing Dustin that he has a purpose.

Dustin has one of the kindest of hearts. ….  Everyone knows him as “The Quiet Man”
